Instructions

Prepare the Dough

  • Combine yogurt, flour, oil, milk, sugar, salt, garlic paste, baking powder, and baking soda in a large bowl. Mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Add more milk if needed.

Rest the Dough

  • Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough inside, and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rest at room temperature for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Garlic Butter Topping

  • In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, and chopped coriander. Set aside.

Shape and Cook the Naan

  • Divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions. On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into an oval shape, about 1/8 inch thick.

Cook on the Tawa

  • Heat a lightly oiled griddle or tawa over medium heat. Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes per side, or until lightly browned and slightly puffed.

Apply Topping

  • Immediately after cooking, brush each naan with the garlic butter mixture. Garnish with extra chopped garlic, if desired.

Serve

  • Serve the garlic butter naan hot with your favorite curries or dishes.

Recipe Notes

Expert Tips for Perfect Naan

  • For extra flavor, use ghee instead of butter.
  • Don't overwork the dough; knead only until combined. Overkneading can result in tough naan.
  • If your dough is too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until it's manageable.
  • For a crispier naan, cook it over slightly higher heat.
