Ingredients
Dough Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 2 1/2 tsp Active Yeast dry
- 1/2 cup Milk warm
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
Garlic Butter Spread
- 1/4 cup Butter melted
- 1 1/2 tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
Cheese and Seasoning
- 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese shredded
- 1/2 cup Cheddar Cheese shredded
- 1 tsp Oregano dried
- 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1/4 tsp Salt
Instructions
- In a warm bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy. This activates the yeast and ensures a light and airy bread.
- In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Knead until a smooth and elastic dough forms.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, mayonnaise, and garlic powder.
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a large circle or oval.
- Spread half of the garlic butter mixture over the dough. Sprinkle with half of the mozzarella and cheddar cheese, oregano, cayenne pepper, and salt.
- Fold the dough in half, pressing the edges firmly to seal.
- Using a sharp knife, make shallow cuts along the top of the folded dough. Brush with the remaining garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with the remaining cheese, oregano, cayenne, and salt.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips
- For extra garlicky flavor, roast the garlic cloves before adding them to the butter mixture. This mellows out the garlic's bite and creates a deeper, richer flavor.
- Experiment with different herbs! Fresh parsley, rosemary, or oregano can add a delicious twist to your garlic bread.
- Don't overcrowd the pan when toasting the bread. Ensure each slice has enough space to crisp up evenly.
Storage Instructions
- Store leftover garlic bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in a toaster oven or under the broiler for a few minutes to restore its crispness.
