The Super Food “garden Cress”

It is very important to know your food to obtain all the benefits attached & at the same time to satisfy ever-growing quench for hunger. The gulit for eating junk food is always ended with skipping essential meal on the next day. People doing this always have their own logic to explain, many tell they are just doing the balancing job for that extra fat & calories they gulp with a piece of burger , huh !! what a joke ..

While Indians tend to fascinate by anything foreign ,we simple ignore those super-food that our grand-parents been using. Such a super-food is Garden cress seed,that have been recognized for centuries in India. In hindi it is called as “halim” & we call “Hidamba Saga” in odiya. And the extra benefit is that you can add it to your diet in your comfort zone. This small plant of garden cress are rich source of iron ,Vitamin A & antioxidants which is used as a digestive aide. Garden cress also helps purify blood and stimulate appetite. When taken regularly it helps to alleviate anemia.
You will be surprised to know that one ounce of garden cress give your body nearly 32% of your daily requirement of Vitamin C, nearly 4 time higher than what oranges provide.Its useful in treating irregular periods, estrogen deficiency etc Researchers reveal that garden cress is packed with numerous medicinal properties ,so should be consumed with care as excess consumption can pose adverse effect to health. It should be 3 to 5 gm daily dose. This culinary and medicinal herb leaf has a peppery, tangy taste while the soaked seeds taste like flower stalk gel. These seeds are naturally rich in oil.

Now coming to it’s consumption ,you can dry roast with a pinch of salt and can add to your toast,salad. where as it can be soaked in water and added to coconut water or you can prepare ladoos adding jaggery & ghee. This ladoo is a traditional Maharashtrian sweet . In marathi they call it “Aliv”…
