Ingredients
- 3 Papad or poppadums
- 2 cup Chickpeas kabuli chana, or chaat, or chana, or sprouts for the sprouted chana chaat black or kala chana sprouts
- 1 tbsp Masala or chana chana
- 1 tbsp Chaat Masala
- 1 tsp Salt or as per taste
- 2 Onion finely chopped
- 2 Tomatoes finely chopped
- 2 Cucumber finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Coriander dhania, th chopped
- 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1/8 tsp Asafoetida hing, th
- 2 tbsp Oil
- 1 tsp Chilli Flakes
Instructions
- First of all in a microwave safe mug, place about 2 papads as seen in the picture.
- Fold it from the centre and place them opposite to each other. But do not apply much force.
- Microwave on HIGH for about 30 secs. I have used a 1250 Watt Microwave. You might require little less or more time depending upon the microwave you are using.
- For the chana chaat, soak them overnight and then wrap them up in a wet cloth and place them on the kitchen counter for about 2 to 3 days. Your sprouts are ready.
- Heat oil in a microwave safe bowl along with the assfoetida. Add the sprouts to it along with the spices excluding the veggies and the chaat masala. Mix well.
- Cover and allow it to cook for about 3 minutes on HIGH. After 3 minutes, remove and stir once and then microwave again for about 3 more minutes. Repeat it four times in all with a 3 minute time limit taking it out and stirring it each time.
- After done, add in the veggies. Give it all a good mix. Sprinkle chaat masala on top and squeeze some lemon juice. Adjust salt according to taste.
- Serve this chana chaat in microwave papad tacos and enjoy with family and friends.
Recipe Notes
It takes about 30 secs for the papad tacos in a microwave. For the chana chaat it takes about 12 minutes to little more. You can make as many tacos as needed and serve with the chana chaat.
Additional Tips
- For best results, microwave the papads one at a time and immediately fold them into a taco shape while they’re still hot and pliable—use a rolling pin or the edge of a bowl to form the curve before they crisp up.
- Add a spoonful of whisked yogurt or a drizzle of mint-coriander chutney inside each papad taco for extra creaminess and a cooling contrast to the spicy chaat filling.
- If using store-bought papads with strong flavors (like black pepper or garlic), pair them with milder, less-spiced chana chaat to balance the taste and avoid overpowering the dish.
- Prepare the chana chaat filling in advance, but only assemble the tacos just before serving to prevent the papads from getting soggy and losing their crunch.
