Recipe Notes

Additional Tips

  • For an extra depth of flavor, sauté a couple of thinly sliced garlic cloves in the olive oil before adding the broccoli and tomatoes—this will infuse the oil and create a more aromatic base for the sauce.
  • If you prefer a bit of heat, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes when cooking the vegetables to give the dish a gentle, authentic Southern Italian spiciness.
  • Reserve about half a cup of the pasta cooking water; adding it to the pan when tossing the pasta and vegetables will help create a silky, cohesive sauce that clings to the orecchiette.
  • For a heartier meal or a protein boost, add drained cannellini beans or sautéed Italian sausage slices in with the vegetables during the final few minutes of cooking.
