Ingredients
For the Potato Mixture
- 4 Potatoes boiled and mashed, medium-sized
- 2 tbsp Corn Flour
- 1.5 tsp Salt or to taste
- 1 tbsp Chili finely chopped, green
- 1 tbsp Coriander finely chopped (dhania), fresh
- 1/2 tbsp Garlic finely chopped, optional
- 1 tbsp Chili Powder red
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
For Coating and Frying
- 2 tbsp Breadcrumb
- 1 cup Oil for deep frying
- 1 Egg for binding), lightly beaten (optional
Instructions
Prepare the Potato Mixture
- Boil and mash the potatoes. In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, cornflour, salt, green chilies, coriander, garlic (if using), red chili powder, lemon juice, and garam masala. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
- Refrigerate the mixture for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to firm up.
Shape and Coat the Nuggets
- Lightly beat an egg in a shallow dish (optional). Place the breadcrumbs in another shallow dish.
- Shape the potato mixture into small nugget shapes. If using, dip each nugget in the beaten egg, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs, ensuring they are evenly covered.
Fry and Serve
- Heat the oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the potato nuggets in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- Fry the nuggets until they turn golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Remove the nuggets from the oil and place them on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as green chutney or tomato ketchup.
Recipe Notes
Expert Tips for Perfect Potato Nuggets
- For extra crispy nuggets, you can double-coat them in breadcrumbs. Dip them in the egg, then breadcrumbs, then egg again, and finally, breadcrumbs one last time.
- Don't overcrowd the pan while frying. This will lower the oil temperature and result in soggy nuggets instead of crispy ones. Fry in batches for best results.
- Adjust the amount of green chilies and red chili powder to control the spice level according to your preference.
- Experiment with different seasonings! Add other spices like cumin or turmeric for a unique flavor profile. You can also add finely chopped onions for extra flavor.
