Makar Sankranti is a major festival celebrate in various parts of India. In sri Jagannath temple at Puri this is observed as Uttaraya yatra and uttarrayan vandapana of lord Jagannath.
People offer a special kind of newly harvested rice mixed with Jaggery, grated coconut, banana, chenna khoya, dry fruits, milk, grapes called' Makara Chaula' offered it to the gods.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Rice soak the rice 3 hours, then wash & drain
  • 3 tbsp Jaggery Noren Gudh
  • 2 Cardamom
  • 4 Cloves
  • 10 Black pepper
  • 5 Cashew
  • 5 Raisin
  • 6 Grapes
  • 1/2 Apple remove the skin & chopped
  • 1 Banana
  • 3 tbsp Coconut grated
  • 1/2 cup Coconut milk
  • 1 tbsp Ghee

For garnish

  • 8-10 Pomegranate seeds

Instructions
 

  • In a mixer pour all of the above ingredients, mix thoroughly and grind it in a smooth paste.
  • Garnish with pomegranate seeds & serve chilled.
