Ingredients
Fish & Marinade
- 500 gm Rahu Fish or other firm white fish fillets
- 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 1 tsp Turmeric Powder haldi
- 1 tsp Salt or to taste
Spice Paste & Aromatics
- 0.5 cup Onion Paste
- 2 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
- 1 tsp Chili Paste hari mirch, adjust to taste, green
- 0.5 cup Yogurt curd
- 1 tsp Sugar
Whole Spices
- 2 Bay Leaves
- 2 Cloves
- 2 Cardamom Pods green
- 1 Cardamom Pod black
- 1 stick Cinnamon Stick
Nut & Seed Paste
- 0.25 cup Cashew Nut Paste
- 1 tbsp Poppy Seeds Paste khaskhas
Other Ingredients
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil or as needed
- 1 tbsp Coriander for garnish
Instructions
Marinate the Fish
- Marinate the Rahu fish fillets with 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, and salt to taste. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
Prepare the Spice Base
- Heat vegetable oil in a pan or pot. Add the whole spices (bay leaves, cloves, cardamom pods, cinnamon stick) and sauté until fragrant. Add the onion paste, ginger-garlic paste, and sauté until golden brown.
Simmer the Curry
- Stir in the green chili paste, yogurt, and sugar. Cook for a few minutes until the oil starts to separate. Add the cashew nut paste and poppy seed paste, and stir well to combine.
Add Fish & Finish
- Gently add the marinated fish to the curry. Cover the pan and simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Stir in the garam masala powder.
Garnish & Serve
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
