No More Big Fat Indian Wedding – No More Food Wastage?

If you have attended any Big Fat Indian wedding, you would have heard this bollywood number for sure “Aaj mere Yaar ki Shadi hai, Aisa Lagata hai pure Sansaar ki Shadi hai” (Today is my friend’s wedding and it seems the whole world is getting married) and then you can imagine what happens next?  To feed the so called whole world, all the cuisines and dishes across the globe are served, just to show off.  It has become a status symbol to talk about the number of dishes which were served. Do you hear anyone talking about the wastage of the food? Well, no one cares!! But not anymore. A Bill has been introduced in parliament by Ranjeet Ranjan (Congress MP) to curb the exorbitant spending during the weddings.

And this is what is says – “If any family intends to spend more than Rs 5 lakh towards expenditure on marriage, such family shall declare the amount proposed to be spent in advance to the appropriate government and contribute 10 per cent of such amount in a welfare fund which shall be established by the appropriate government to assist the poor and Below Poverty Line families for the marriage of their daughters”.

Remember those days of demonetization ( Read the foodie Story about Demonetization)  which had hit the wedding business to a very big extent as people were not able to pay in cash (which is never accounted) and now this move is definitely going to change the big fat wedding scenes of India.

If the bill is passed and becomes a law, it may prevent food wastage as well as over spending on weddings. What do you think about this bill? Do share your views by commenting below.
