Do these comments sound familiar to you?

Yes?

These ae some of the most popular pearls of wisdom passed down through generations. But have we ever stopped for a moment and actually thought why these are repeatedly hitting us and what is their importance?  Here is a list of such dos and don’ts of eating that makes not just our eating style healthy but our ultimate lifestyle gets a whole new makeover, in a hale and hearty way of course!

  • Don’t skip breakfast even if you are in a real scurry:

Woke up a little late? Early meetings? Scared that traffic might delay you? Not feeling hungry? Depressed? On a diet? Whatever might be your excuse, never ever skip your breakfast as that gives you the fuel to function throughout the day. When you skip your breakfast, you tend to eat a lot later, which is only going to make you put on those ugly calories.

  • Do splash your organs with water:

And by water, I don’t mean 1 or 2 litres but plenty like 3 to 4 litres every day. When you drink a lot of water your body gets rejuvenated from inside and all the toxins are flushed out, keeping your body as well as your skin glowing and fresh. Also you tend to eat less when you drink more as your stomach gets full. Try adding lemon, mint, honey and fruits for a quick detox drink with added flavor!

  • Don’t stack yourself with sugars:

Of course none of us wants to walk around carrying diseases like obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. And you welcome all of them into your body by consuming a lot of sugars. Almost all the packed and processed foods contain a lot of unwanted sugar and stuffing your body with them is undoubtedly hazardous. Instead substitute your candies, soft drinks with natural sugars like apples, bananas and other fruits!

  • Do break your meals into smaller portions:

Instead of having 3 meals a day, break them and try having 6. Eating smaller meals at regular intervals will increase the metabolism in your body and helps in stabilizing your blood sugar levels through the day. While you eat smaller portions frequently throughout the day, your stomach would feel eventually full and will stop pestering you for more food.

  • Don’t eat without washing your hands:

A very basic and an elementary-school habit is to wash your hands before each meal. But how many of us follow it DAILY? One day you wash and the next day you would be so waiting to hit your meal that you conveniently omit washing your hands. Being the most used part of our body, our hands are a carrier of billions of germs, so even if you are eating with a spoon or a fork, sanitising your hands is really essential.

  • Do incorporate a lot of vegetables and fruits:

You could never guess the unbelievable amount of nutrients, fibre, antioxidants, skin, hair and body benefits that the vegetables and fruits could give you. It is always said that the amount of vegetables on your plate should always supersede the amount of your main course (rice, roti, etc). The best time to eat fruits is in the morning and before a meal.

  • Do include a lot of fibre and proteins:

Fibre and proteins help in keeping your body and your tummy healthy for a long time. Just a small amount of fibre is enough to make you last for hours without food. And with your daily dose of fibre, your cholesterol and blood glucose levels are lowered. Peas, black beans, lentils, broccoli, avocados, pears, blackberries, raspberries etc. are some fibre-rich foods that you must include immediately!
