Where Lucknow Nawab’s Dine..

Smoking Bones started as  a pure Avadh Non-veg delicacies joint 5 months back but now has started serving  Veg Food and Chinese  Food (Veg/Non-Veg) from the last one week. This food review happens only because I wanted to taste the new launch.

Decor

Smoking Bones fall on the main road at Sector 6, Kharghar and is easily visible while traveling. The food counter is set-up outside the Joint and one does not have to go inside to get food. Ample open space with seating is available. You can see what is available in the glass counter and you get only what you have ordered. The ambience is casual and the brightness inside the joint is okay.

Food

Being an Avadh Food joint, the bifurcation is 80:20 for parcels/Home deliveries against walk-in customers. Most customers are repeats who love to eat the mild yet tasty Avadhi food and the chefs coming down from the town itself, the taste remains unchanged. The specialty of the place has always been the  GALAWATI KEBAB and TAWA CHICKEN FRY, followed by the Kebab Rolls. The Tandoor is set and one cannot resist the Malai Kebab, Tangdi Kebab and the Seekh Kebabs. Having described this Let me come to the reason why I had been there. I had been to taste the Chinese non-veg they had to offer and I was greeted warmly by the owner Mr.Shariq M. I preferred sitting inside the joint. I called in the Chef and asked him to give me a tasting of what he felt would be a complete meal. That’s the best thing to do when you are trying something new.

Rainbow Soup: He started off with Rainbow soup, which was mild and did not hurt the throat like other soup do. I liked the taste and the color of the soup. There was no excess cornflour like typical Chinese soups and even after I let it rest for a while it stayed in the same form. Test 1 clear. Soup quality good.

Crispy Thread Chicken: He then served me a starter called Crispy thread chicken which was pretty impressive. He had made julienne cuts on a wonton sheet making them look like threads  and coated them on tender chicken pieces  and deep fried them. Served with some Schezwan sauce this dish stole the show. The wonton juliennes remained crisp for a long time and did not hurt the mouth like the crisp noodle fries do. The quantity too was ample for the price. Test 2 clear. Starters quantity and taste good.

Sizzler Surprise: Next came a surprise item which he insisted I try. This was the sizzler. Smoking Bones serving Sizzler was a surprise element, but nevertheless I checked the same. They are not as sumptuous as I have checked in at other places, but decent enough for the price they have been put up for. The sauces used were perfect, but the oil could be reduced a bit. It needs improvement on the sizzling, the smoke corresponding, the marination of the chicken and the presentation phases. I gave my suggestions to the Chef on it and hope they do the needful. Test 3 cleared with suggestions. Taste is okay ,but other things need improvisation.

Chinese Pot Rice: Last came the Chinese Fried Rice. The chef served me simple Pot rice and I told him not to give me any side dish because I wanted to check the flavors in the rice. The flavors of Star anise and crushed black pepper were clearly felt. The chicken chunks had absorbed the flavors. Overall a good mild dish to finish off your food. Test 4 clear. Quality and quantity both good for the price.

The ambience is not so pleasant if you are looking at privacy with your group, but at the same time you can enjoy the open space arrangement. There is no Air-conditioned seating available. The Veg and Chinese food are equally good as the Avadhi food and vegetarians will also love going here. The Sizzlers section needs improvement, but the Chinese dishes can be tried unless you are fond of too spicy food..
