This Lip-smacking Dahi Idli recipe is easy to prepare,but extremely flavorful with the tempering of mustard and cumin seeds along with curry leaves. Dahi Idli is a healthy alternative to dahi vada. A cool and refreshing snack,perfect during summer time.

  • Whisk the curd in a bowl and add suji into it.Add salt and mix them well .
  • Whisk the mixture once again and leave the mixture for 20 minutes on kitchen counter.
  • Meanwhile heat sufficient water in a steamer.Bring it to boil.
  • Grease idli moulds with oil.
  • Put baking soda/eno salt into he mixture after 20 minutes and mix well.
  • Make sure that the mixture should not neither too thick nor too thin.
  • Pour a spoonful of the batter into each section of the mould.
  • Place the idli stand in the steamer and cook for 8-10 minutes or till idlis are done.
  • Open the lid and check whether the idli is cooked properly from inside with the help of fork or knife.
  • If the fork/knife comes out clean then the idli is ready.
  • Take out the idli stand from the steamer and let it cool down.
  • Take out each idli from the stand with the help of spoon and put them on a plate. Rava idli is ready.
  • In a bowl add curd,salt,sugar and mix well.
  • Now heat oil in a tadka pan,to hot oil add mustard seeds .
  • When seeds splutters add channa dal,urad dal and curry leaves.
  • Fry until dal turns golden brown in color.
  • Add prepared tadka to whisked curd and mix.
  • In a serving plate place 2-3 idlis,pour curd mix over idlis.
  • Sprinkle red chili powder,black pepper powder,roasted cumin powder and boondi as per taste .
  • Drizzle sweet tamarind over idlis as per taste.
  • Serve Immediately.

Recipe Notes

  1. You can used leftover idlis to prepare dahi idli.
  2. For tadka you can use whole red chili,as i am preparing for my kids i am not using whole red chili here.
  3. If your curd is bit sour add milk to balance the sourness of ciurd
