This is one of the daily household biryanis in hyderabad, a vegetarian delight to be devoured. Beautifuly flavoured and a simple biryani.

Basmati rice - 1 cup
Chana dal
soaked - 1/4 th cup
Sliced onion - 2
Green chillies
chopped - 2
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
Yoghurt - 1/2 cup
Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
Elaichi powder - 1/4 th tsp
Coriander leaves
Mint leaves
Refined oil/ghee Salt
Instructions
Boil the Chana dal , strain it and keep aside. do not throw away the water
Now in a pressure pan (I used a nonstick pressure pan), heat oil.
Add sliced onion and green chillies, saute till golden brown.
Then add ginger garlic paste and saute.
Meanwhile which the yoghurt , chilly powder, elaichi powder and salt in a bowl. Also, wash the Basmati rice and cook till half done. Strain it.
Add the yoghurt mix to the onions and stir. Add the Chana dal, mint leaves and half the coriander leaves. Give it a mix.
Now layer the rice on top of the masala, sprinkle remaining coriander leaves.
Close the lid without the whistle, buy cover the mouth with an aluminium foil so that the steam does not escape.
Cook on a low flame, for 15 minutes. Rest and serve.
