Roast all the dry 5 whole spices and grind it. Now take a kadai and heat the oil in it. Put the mustard seeds, when starts spluttering add fenu greek seeds and curry leaves. Then add ginger garlic paste and onion paste.
Saute it for few mins and stirr continously till it becomes brown. Now add salt, haldi powder and roasted spices powder. Mix it ery well and stirr it for 4 to 5 mins low flame. Now add tamarind pulp, water and Small onions. Cover it with the lid.
Now let it cook for 10 mins. When Onions becomes soft turn off the flame. Now its ready. Serve this Onion Saalan with chapati and Rice. What ever you like.
