Chilly Idli is a wonderful weekend snack. I normally store all the left over idli in the freezer and prepare variety of snacks using these leftovers Idlies.
Use a day old Idly for this recipe. Start by chopping the idlies into equal bite size cubes and add to a mixing bowl.
Add corn flour and 4 tbsp water along with salt as per taste mix till the idlies are coated in the corn flour batter.
Heat oil in a wok for frying.
Gently drop the idly cubes one at a time fry in batches of 8 to 9 cubes until the idlies turn golden in color. Drain from oil and reserve on paper towels.
Heat a pan on medium flame add 3 tbsp oil. Once the oil is hot add chopped onion, curry leaves, green chilies, dried red chilies, ginger and garlic paste fry until the onion turn light pink in color.
Add bell peppers(capsicum), soya sauce, green chilly paste, garam masala, turmeric, chilly powder and tomato puree fry all the ingredients for a minute.
Add 3 tbps water and salt stir and allow the moisture to reduce. Once the oil surfaces on the masala add the fried idlies and toss garnish with coriander , mint, vinegar or lime juice... Serve hot...Enjoy
