  • Wash and clean the okra .Cut of the corners and chop into small pieces.Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Add urad dal,mustard seeds and curry leaves to hot oil.
  • When dal turns slightly brown and mustard seeds splutter. Add chopped onion and saute on medium flame .
  • Cook onions until they turns translucent in color,it will take 2-3 minutes.
  • Add chopped okra,salt turmeric and sambar powder . Mix okra well with all the spices.
  • Reduce the flame to low and saute once in while every 3-4 minutes.
  • Sauteing in low flame will avoid the mixture from sticking on the bottom of pan.
  • Cook okra for 15-20 minutes or until completely cooked and dry
  • Remove from heat.Serve hot with rice.

Recipe Notes

  1. This recipe can be prepared without using onions.
  2. Make sure that you pat dry okra before use else it will turn out to be sticky.
