Vada Pappu And Panakam – Sri Rama Navami Special

Vada Pappu or Kosambari and Panakam or Panagam is Sri Rama Navami special South Indian recipe. Vada Pappu Panakam is offered to Lord Rama as naivedyam on the auspicious day of Sri Rama Navami. Vada Pappu is protein-packed, a low-calorie healthy salad made with soaked Moong Dal. Panakam is a cool energy drink which is made with water and jaggery. It is a naturally sweetened summer cooler laced with a hint of spice.

Ingredients
Vada Pappu
- ½ cup Moong Dal
- 3 tbsp Raw Mango chopped
- 2 tbsp Carrots grated
- 2 tbsp Coconut grated
- ½ tbsp Lemon juice
- 2 tbsp Coriander
- Salt as per taste
For seasoning
- 1 tbsp Oil
- ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
- 1 Green Chilli chopped
- ¼ tsp Asafetida hing
Panakam
- 2 cup Water
- ½ cup Jaggery Powder
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- ¼ tsp Dry ginger powder
- ¼ tsp Pepper powder
- ¼ tsp Cardamom powder
- 5-6 Basil leaves tulsi
- Salt

Instructions
- For Vada Pappu: Wash Moon Dal for about 4 to 5 times and soak Dal for about an hour, then strain completely.
- Add Raw Mango, Carrots, Coconut and salt to the Moong Dal. Mix it well.
- For Seasoning: Heat up oil in a small bowl, once the oil is hot; add mustard seeds and when the mustard seeds start crackling add green chillies and Asafoetida.
- Pour the tempering on the Moong Dal mixture, add lemon juice and coriander, mix it well and Serve to all with Panakam.
- For Panakam: In a bowl, Dissolve the jaggery in water, in this add lemon juice, salt, Cardamom powder, dry ginger powder and pepper powder.
- Filter it using a strainer, add Tulsi leaves. Mix it well and Serve chilled!
