Urad Dal Masala Bread...Vegan, Gluten free, No leavening agents. Adding masalas, let's us to adjust its flavor as per personal preference. Have it as is, toast it lightly, dip in gravies, Make cheese sandwiches. The possibilities are endless.

  • Urad dal 1.5 cups
  • 1/2 teaspoon jeera
  • Italian pizza seasonings 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt
  • Garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 3 tbsp cornflour
  • 3 tbsp rice flour
  • Baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoon ( Optional/ Won't need if dal is fermented well )
  • Water as needed 3 to 6 tablespoon
  • Oil 1 tablespoon
  • Lemon juice 1 teaspoon
  • 1 teaspoon thyme


  • Wash and soak the dal overnight. Next morning, drain it. Grind using minimum water.
  • Add in all ingredients, except baking powder and give a whisk. Keep it covered to ferment for about 6 hours. The batter will become little bubbly.
  • If it has not fermented well, then we can add the baking powder. ( Don't add if you see nice bubbly batter )
  • Meanwhile, do preheat the oven at 180 degrees for 10 minutes. Ready a bread tin or cake tin by greasing the sides.
  • Place parchment paper at the base. Pour the batter. Bake at 200 degrees for 45 minutes.
  • Lower temperature to 180 and bake for 10 minutes more. Keep both rods on for the last 10 minutes so that top gets browned. Remove when done. Cool for 10 minutes and then de mould. Cool on wire rack.
