Tomato Dal (Tomato With Lentil)

Tomato Dal is an easy recipe or side dish. We loved to eat tomato dal with steamed rice and matchstick potato fries. It's divine. Sometime simple food can beat spicy exotic foods. Tomato dal is one of those dish. My love for Tomato Dal inspired me to share this recipe.

  • 1/2 cup toor dal
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes any tomatoes will do
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon kasoori methi
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 dried red chilli
  • Salt for seasoning
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil


  • Cook dal in a pressure cooker or in a big pan.
  • In a kadai or wok heat vegetable oil, Add mustard seeds and whole red chilli , when it starts to crackling add halved cherry tomatoes and fry a bit .
  • Add salt, turmeric powder and 1/2 cup of water, let it boil for 10 minutes.Add kasuri methi and boil a bit. Pour dal in serving bowls and serve.
