I had an elderly couple recently as guest for dinner. I was looking for to make an easily digestible, less spicy, Â without onion and and garlic and a novel one. Finally I landed in making this Aval kaara kozhukattai which received the appreciation from them...

Ingredients
- Poha / Aval 500 gms
- Mustard seeds 1 tea spoon Urad dal 1 tea spoon and Chana dal 1 tea spoon
- Green chillies 2 and Red chillies 2
- Hing powder 1/4 tea spoon
- Curry leaves
- Water 200 ml
- Coconut oil 2 or 3 tea spoons

Instructions
- Wash the Poha well, drain the water out and keep it aside.
- Heat a pan with oil. Saute it with mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal.
- Once they splutter and become brown add the chillies, hing powder and curry leaves stir for a while.
- Now add the 200 ml water and required salt.
- When the water starts boiling add the drained poha and stir well for 2 minutes.
- After the stuff gets cooled make it into lemon size balls and steam it out for 10 minutes.
- The Aval Kaara Kozhukattai is ready to serve now with any chutney or pickle or sugar.
