Rustic Strawberry & Chocolate Yogurt Sponge Cake

Rustic Strawberry & Chocolate Yogurt Sponge Cake is baked using fresh strawberries, oats, whole wheat flour, almonds, walnuts and dark chocolate. Enjoy this simple and healthy cake as a dessert or a snack.

  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¾ cup finely powdered or oats flour
  • ¾ cup cane sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt or Thick curd
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup finely chopped dark chocolate Lindt 70% cocoa dark chocolate or something similar
  • ¼ cup finely chopped badam and walnuts
  • 6 or 7 big strawberries quartered
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder for dusting


  • Sieve whole wheat flour, oats flour, cocoa powder and salt at least 3-5 times.
  • Dissolve sugar in yogurt .
  • Add baking powder and baking soda to the yogurt and set it aside for few mins. The mixture will turn a little foamy.
  • Add oil and mix gently. This is the wet mixture of the cake batter.
  • Preheat the oven @190c. Grease a pan and align parchment sheet.
  • Gently mix the sifted flour mixture to the wet mixture.
  • Stir in the strawberry, chocolate chunks & nuts.
  • Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and bake for 40 – 45 mins @190c
  • Once the cake is slightly warm, dust cocoa powder & decorate using strawberries.
  • Slice and serve as needed.


Oven temperature and the baking time may depend upon your oven. Please adjust accordingly.
