Rawa Idli – Rawa Cake

South Indian cuisine is known for its healthy recipes and rava idli (sooji idli) is one of the simple recipe which combines the goodness of many dals and spices. It’s not just healthy and irresistible but also very easy to prepare too. Now a days there are few ready-made instant rava idly packs available in market which just required adding some water and steaming. However, nothing can beat the taste of authentic preservative free soft and fluffy home made idli.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Rava suji / semolina
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • A pinch of Asaefotida
  • 1 tsp Chana Dal gram dal
  • 6-7 Cashew Nuts broken into small pieces
  • 1 tsp Eno Fruit Salt
  • Oil for greasing

Instructions
 

  • Heat 2 teaspoon oil and in a heavy based pan or kadai. Add mustard seeds; when they start to crackle, add asafoetida, cashewnuts and chana dal and saute for 30 seconds on low flame.
  • Add rawa n mix it well, roast it on medium flame until it turns light brown. Make sure that it does not burn keep stirring continuously. Switch off the flame n transfer roasted rawa to a plate.
  • Now prepare batter add curd, salt and 1/8 cup water in roasted rawa. Mix really well. Make sure that there are no lumps. Keep batter aside for 15minutes to settle.
  • Pour 2 glasses of water in steamer n heat it on medium flame. Grease idli molds plates with cooking oil.
  • Now add eno salt in batter n mix gently. After adding eno u will c bubbles on the surface of batter.
  • Pour batter in each molds n steam it on medium flame for 10-15 minutes. After 15minutes turnoff flame and remove molds plate from steamer let it cool down n remove prepared idli from it.
  • Rawa idli ready to serve. Serve this with hot with coconut chutney n sambar.

Notes

U can add chopped veggies also like grated carrot, boiled n mashed green peas for healthy rawa idli.
