Raw Mango Dal

A very popular dish from Andhra which is made with arhar dal and raw mango.  It is a very simple dish which has a tanginess from the mango which enhances the flavor of the daal.  This is the first time I made this and really in love with it..  Came out so good along with some rice.  Beautiful combination for when you want something simple and delicious.

Ingredients
- arhar dal 1.5 cup
- raw mango grated 1
- tomato chopped 1
- garlic cloves chopped 3-4
- turmeric 1/2 tsp
- red chili powder 1/2 tsp
- green chilies 1-2
- cumin seed 1/4 tsp
- mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
- whole dried chilies 2-3
- olive oil 2 tbsp
- asafoetida pinch
- Salt
- cilantro chopped to garnish
- water as required

Instructions
- Wash the dal and set aside. In a pressure cooker, add the dal, grated mango, tomatoes, green chilies, salt and turmeric.
- Cook till it is done.
- Take it off and check the consistency of the dal. Adjust the consistency as you desire. Put it back on the heat and simmer for a few minutes.
- In a frying pan, add oil and let it heat up. Then add cumin, mustard, asafoetida, red dry chilies. Let the seeds splatter and add the chopped garlic. Let it fry until a little brown and turn the gas off. Add the red chili powder and pour the mixture on top of the dal.
