A simple snack recipe with urad daal rice batter in for of small round deep fried dumplings.

  • 1/2 cup urad dal
  • 1/4 cup rice
  • 2 tbsp chopped onions
  • 2 tbsp chopped green chillies
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • Semolina 1-1/2 tbsp


  • In a bowl add urad daal and rice
  • Wash the ingredients well
  • Soak them in water for 7-8 hours
  • Strain the soaked water
  • Add the soaked ingredients into a blender
  • Add little water and blend into a fine paste
  • Make a thick batter and not a thin batter
  • Ferment the batter for about 7-8 hours or overnight
  • After fermentation mix the batter well
  • Add salt and mix
  • Add chopped onions green chillies coriander leaves cumin seeds and semolina.batter should be thick
  • Make round balls and drop them in oil.deep fry them till golden brown on both sides on low flame
  • Serve with red chilli chutney,peanut chutney
