About this Recipe

Easy, Tangy and famous South Indian Lemon Rice goes very well with coconut chutney and can be eaten for any meal of the day. Be it breakfast/Lunch or Dinner.

Ingredients & Quantity
  • 2 cups Basmati Rice
  • 4 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • Salt according to taste
  • 2 tbsp cocnut oil (or any refined oil)
  • 4 dry red Chillies
  • 1 tsp Split Black Gram Urad Dal (soaked for 5 mins)
  • 5-10 Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric
  • 1tsp Mustard Seeds
How to cook?
  1. 1.Boil Basmati Rice as usual and spread it on the tray for drying so that it's well separated.
  2. Heat oil in the pan, Add Mustard seeds, Curry leaves and dry red chilles and let the seeds splutter with crackling sound .
  3. Add soaked split black gram lentil (urad dal) and cook it at a very low flame,till it starts changing the color.
  4. While the tempering is getting ready. Add Lemon juice (2 tbsp) , Turmeric,Salt and sugar to the boiled rice.
  5. Add this rice gently without breaking it to the tempering. Serve it with coconut chutney.
