One of my most favourite breakfast dishes that require pre-planning but takes very less time in the rushed mornings. The combo of idli with spicy chutney and hot sambhar is out of this world.

  • Wash the rice and dal and soak separately for 6 hours. Grind them separately. Add the dhania while grinding. Add water to adjust the batter consistency. Keep overnight for fermentation. Add salt in the next morning and whisk gently.
  • Heat the idli steamer after adding water to it. Grease the idli moulds and put in the idli batter in each. Steam the idlis for about 15 minutes in the steamer on full flame. Remove when done and demould after 5 minutes. Serve with sambar and chutney

Recipe Notes

Add boiled and pureed vegetables to your batter to make new varieties.
