  • Soak the Chana dal (bengal gram) overnight.
  • Drain them and blend them in a mixer grinder with very little water.
  • Heat a nonstick kadhai with little oil.
  • Add kalaunji (onion seeds) and once they splutter, add the Chana dal paste and salt.
  • Cook till the mixture is Dry and becomes doughy.
  • Pour the mixture on a flat surface and flatten it.
  • Cut it into diamond shapes and deep fry the pieces and keep aside.
  • Heat another kadhai with very little oil.
  • Add dry red chillies and jeera.
  • Add the tomatoes and stir.
  • Cook till they are mushy and then add the ginger paste.
  • Stir and then add the powdered masalas, salt.
  • Cook till the masala leaves oil.
  • Add water and bring upto boil.
  • Then add the fried dhokas. Serve.
