A typical bengali dish made in bengali homes, crispy fried cakes made out of chana Dal in a spicy tangy curry.

Ingredients
- Chana dal bengali gram - 1 cup
- Kalaunji onion seeds - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
- Cumin powder - 1 tsp
- Ginger paste - 1 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Tomatoes chopped - 2
- Garam masala powder - 1/4 th tsp made of cloves+ cinnamon+ cardamom in equal ratio
- Dry red chillies - 2
- Salt
- Refined oil

Instructions
- Soak the Chana dal (bengal gram) overnight.
- Drain them and blend them in a mixer grinder with very little water.
- Heat a nonstick kadhai with little oil.
- Add kalaunji (onion seeds) and once they splutter, add the Chana dal paste and salt.
- Cook till the mixture is Dry and becomes doughy.
- Pour the mixture on a flat surface and flatten it.
- Cut it into diamond shapes and deep fry the pieces and keep aside.
- Heat another kadhai with very little oil.
- Add dry red chillies and jeera.
- Add the tomatoes and stir.
- Cook till they are mushy and then add the ginger paste.
- Stir and then add the powdered masalas, salt.
- Cook till the masala leaves oil.
- Add water and bring upto boil.
- Then add the fried dhokas. Serve.
