After being sick with a nagging cold with loads of sneezing and sniffing, added on with cravings for something hot & spicy food. Ended up making the ultimate home remedy for bad colds... Crabs. Well eating crabs is a messy business, crack the bone, suck out the yummy juice and relish the tender sweet meat.

Ingredients
 

  • 4 Water or crab fresh crab
  • 6 piece Coconut chunky
  • 5 leaves Coriander
  • 2 inches Ginger
  • 4 pods Garlic
  • 1 cup Fried Onion i medium sized onion, or masala for masala
  • 1 Onion chopped medium
  • 2 large Tomato finely chopped
  • 2 tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • red chili powder as per taste
  • 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1-2 tsp Salt or as per taste
  • Oil

Instructions
 

  • Grind the masala ingredients to a fine paste - Fried onion, coconut, ginger, garlic & coriander leaves

  • In a kadai/wok, heat some oil and saute the onion

  • Then add the crabs and stir

  • After sauting the crab & onions for 3-5 mins, start adding the dry spice powders - Turmeric powder, Coriander powder, red chilli powder and salt

  • Next add the chopped tomato, stir them into the crab mixture. Add 4 tbsp of water and not much, since crab cooks in its own water as well

  • Cover with a lid and cook on simmered flame for 5-6 mins , until the water from the meat is oozing out

  • Remove the lid once the water from the meat has oozed out and check for the spice levels, adjust according to taste.

  • Pour in the ground masala and cook on low flame with a closed lid for another 15-20 mins

  • You may continue cooking to adjust the consistency of the gravy as desired

  • Serve Hot with plain rice or Rotis
