Chives Chutney/ Chives Salad

Chives Chutney or chives salad is a traditional recipe of the Nagas. It is from the Naga cuisine. A very famous and popular chutney commonly found in every Naga household. Chutney are a must in every Naga meal. We have variety of chutney from veg to fish to smoked meats. And this one is one amongst the favourite. Chives Chutney is prepared with roasted green chillies and roasted tomato. Traditionally the green chillies and tomatoes are roasted in fire side in hot ashes and heated charcoal. But since I don't have a fire side currently where I am residing, I have roasted the green chillies and tomatoes in a flat tawa over gas top.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large bunch of Chives
  • 10-15 green chilly
  • 2 to mato
  • Salt

Instructions
 

  • Wash the Chives nicely in running water and keep aside.
  • Prick the green chillies and tomatoes and roast them over medium heat in a tawa. Flip over and roast on all sides.
  • In a mortar and pestle, first add the roasted green chilly and Salt and ground the chillies. Then add the tomato and ground together and mix well.
  • Take the washed Chives and crush it rubbing in the palm of your hand and cut into 3-4 cm long pieces.
  • Add the chives in the grounded chillies and tomatoes, mix them well together and serve.

Notes

Since we are used to hot and spicy so the green chilly is as per our taste, one can adjust as per their heat preference.
