Chicken Cordon Bleu is a classic chicken breast recipe loaded with oozing, melted Swiss cheese. Chicken breast or ham slices (for Pork Cordon Bleu) are wrapped around the cheese and rolled in breadcrumbs, then fried or baked to create a flavorful, cheesy, crunchy, and crispy dish perfect for casseroles and chicken dinner meals.
Traditionally deep-fried, it can also be baked or shallow-fried for a healthier version. Cordon Bleu is a popular main dish in America, originating in Switzerland and named after France.

Recipe Notes

  1. Traditionally pork (ham)  is used for this recipe, but feel free to use any ham of choice.
  2. Also traditionally Swiss cheese is used as a filling, however, I couldn’t find any so used smoked gouda cheese. When in doubt always use smoked cheese.
  3. Ideally regular all purpose flour (maida) can be used for coating, however, if you have rice flour on hand do use it, it adds a lot of crunch to the final fried product.
  4. You can serve this dish with various sides like herbed rice, steamed vegetables like peas, Brussel sprouts and broccoli and even with a white sauce.
