  • 1 cup Chana Dal
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seeds
  • 1 bunch Spinach cut finely
  • 1 pinch Baking Soda
  • 1 tbsp Batter or oil oil for
  • 1-2 tsp Salt or as per taste
  • 1 tbsp Oil or for frying


  • Soak the dal overnight, then squeeze out all the water.
  • Grind all the ingredients of the vada except spinach, and then add spinach to the mixture. Mix well and form small balls, flattening them into patties.
  • Steam the vada in an idly cooker, then cut them into small, long pieces. Heat a non-stick tawa and lightly apply oil.
  • Shallow fry the vada pieces until they are golden brown. Serve hot with green chutney or sauce.
