Beetroot Pulav

Beetroot has several nutrients needed for good health. Beetroot rice is very easy to prepare and also very healthy.

  • 1 cup basmati rice washed and soaked for 15 minutes
  • 1 beetroot finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 1 tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 pinch Turmeric Powder
  • 1.5 cup water
  • 1 tsp coriander leaves chopped
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 inch cinamon stick
  • 2 cardamoms
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds


  • in a pressure cooker heat oil and ghee
  • add cinamon, cloves, cardamoms and cumin seeds
  • let them splutter, then add ginger garlic paste, onion and green chilli
  • fry till raw smell goes
  • then add garam masala powder and turmeric powder and fry for a minute
  • add beetroot and peas and saute for 2 minutes
  • add salt and soaked rice, give a quick saute till the masalas are micely coated with the rice
  • add water and close the lid
  • pressure cook for 2 whistles
  • once pressure releases, open the lid and transfer the pulav to a serving bowl
  • garnish with coriander leaves and serve with raita
