Khichdi is a dish made from Lentil and Rice. Khichdi is one pot comfort and healthy meal. A simple arhar dal khichdi best serve with pickle, sliced onion tempered with sliced garlic and chopped onion. Khichdi is one of the most common Indian food made often in most homes. Arhar dal khichdi is a great option for quick lunch or dinner. usually arhar dal khichdi serve with plain curd and mango pickle. you can also garnish with onion rings and lemon slice.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup Split red gram/ Tuar dal/ Arhar dal
  • 2 cup Rice
  • 1 tbsp Salt
  • 4 no Whole red chili/ lal sookhi mirch
  • 8 Garlic cloves/ Lahsun ki kali
  • 1 large Onion/ pyaz
  • 2 teaspoon Cumin
  • 1/2 tbsp Turmeric powder/ Haldi powder
  • 2 teaspoon Red chili powder/ Lal mirch powder
  • 2 Tbsp Desi ghee/ Clarified butter
  • Lemon slice Green chili, Pickle for serving

Instructions
 

  • Wash the dal and rice soak in water for 1/2 hour then drain water completely. Peel and thinly slice the onion and garlic.
  • Boil the khicdi in cooker with 3 glass water, After a boil discard the dirt then add salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder. Lower the flame cover and cook the khichdi for 15 minutes.
  • Heat the ghee in a pan add cumin seeds let them crackle then add garlic, onion fry until golden add broken whole red chili and switch off the flame quickly, reserve some tadka for garnish.
  • Open the lid and pour the tadka on khichdi. Garnish with remaining tadka, onion rings, lemon slice, green chili, Serve hot with pickle.
