I simply love the aroma of sweet Italian basil. Basil is considered be very healthy, it is known for its various herbal use. It is a traditional remedy that has been used in various cultures for hundreds of years for many uses besides cooking. Basil is rich in Vitamin A, K, C, Magnesium, Iron, Potassium and Calcium. It is considered to be Holy in Indian culture; I remember we had a huge Basil garden in our house and my grandmother use to worship it. She use to sprinkle Basil leaves over dishes and excessively in Tea during winters. Making Pesto sauce is extremely easy job, its simple yet supper yummy. You can use it as sandwich spread, salad dressing, in your pasta or just as a dip with your favorite bread. Few days back I bought fresh basil from super market, since I had no pine nuts in my Kitchen I used walnut instead and trust me it taste the same. This 5 ingredient Basil pesto just need Fresh basil leaves, walnuts, garlic, salt and loads of olive oil. You need to take care of the storage of this sauce as well. Basil pesto darkens when exposed to air, store, cover tightly with plastic wrap making sure the plastic is touching the top of the pesto and not allowing the pesto to have contact with air. The pesto will stay greener longer that way.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup of fresh sweet basil leaves
  • 1 cup walnut
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • ¼ cup Cheddar or Parmesan cheese Optional
  • Freshly grounded pepper Optional
  • 4-5 tablespoon olive oil or more for topping
  • Salt

Instructions
 

  • Put basil leaves, garlic cloves in the mixer grinder
  • Grind the mixture adding olive oil slowly in a stream
  • Add grated Cheddar or Parmesan cheese
  • Now blend to make a paste
  • Sprinkle some salt as required
  • Mix with ground pepper
  • Your Pesto sauce is ready
